Free money

A free lunch?

A wise man once said that there is no such thing as a free lunch. That’s of course total crap but in most cases when a stranger gives you money or goodies he wants something in return.  The same is true for free money in Second Life, you can get money without working or without using your credit card but not because people just love to hand out cash.

The common reasons why somone decides to start handing out free cash are:

  • They want information from you.
  • They want you to come visit their location.
  • They want your attention.

My advice would be to stay away from the first one. Who starts using search to find places that are about free money will end up on locations as Money Island, McMoney or something simular. They ask you to fill in forms on websites and once you are done you will receive a few Linden Dollars.

You really want to spend 15 minutes to give away all your personal details and then get rewarded with the equivalent of something as US$ 0.02 ?? Yes? Then they have what you are looking for !! (If you have an IP address in America or Western Europe otherwise they don’t need you and ..to see if it works, with filling in false information I didn’t get a dime)

Oh, and the thing that says it is “Watch videos and get paid” is approx the same thing: Stay away from it. Instead read on on this page, there are better options.

Camping & Profile Picks

Two things you might have heard off: Camping is being paid money just to be on a place. Just sit on a chair and you get paid for that. The one paying you is the owner of the location where the chair is and he does that because traffic counting (the total time spend on his land) helps him to get ranked higher in search.

Camping hardly exists anymore as it became forbidden and who uses camping chairs to try to get a higher search ranking is in a high risk of being punished by not being in search at all for a while. At some places you still see a camping chair standing, you do nothing wrong by sitting there, they do something wrong by putting it there. (If their place is listed in search)

Getting paid for profile picks is something similar as camping: You get money to have someone’s location mentioned in your profile. It is only a little and you still need to do a whole lot, as e.g. collecting your money at the right time, at the right place and you won’t get much.

The profile picks thing is not forbidden but Linden Labs made sure it doesn’t have any impact on search ranking anymore..shortly after they did that these pay-for-profile-picks things started to disappear from most locations.

You are too late for camping or getting paid for profile picks. It are things from the past. Luckily both are rather dull, extremely boring and pay so little that it doesn’t even cover the electricity your PC is using.

Let’s have a look at the free money scheme’s that still do exist, are wanting to buy your real life private info for less than a dime and do pay out at least a little more than hardly nothing.

Don’t expect to get rich, just to get yourself some L$ while perhaps having a good time.

Linden XPloder Money Bag

A XPloder is a thing where a participants can put some money in, after a certain time passed it divides the money again amongst the participants. Randomly. Some get more, some get less. The Linden XPloder Money Bag takes it a step further, you can participate without putting money in.

You go to such a Xploder, touch it to join it, wait till the displayed time is over..and you get your share too. In most cases this will only work if you first join the correct group. You can do so by right clicking the xploder, choose edit, click on the group button and then when the group pops up click join. Be carefull with this, only join if joining the group costs nothing..

And then you stand there..with a large group of people waiting till the Xploder finishes. The money is divided randomly so sometimes you leave with L$30 and sometimes with L$0.

The reason you often have to join a group is that this Xploder of course is very very simular to camping. At the end of the day just clear all those groups from your group list. The owner of the Xploder doesn’t care, the reason he gives away money is that he wants you to be on his place for the traffic counting..and well, perhaps you look around while you are there.

Finding one is easy. They are listed on the web page of the creator of the Linden Xploder Money Bag. Here is the link. You see only the currently active Xploders, how much money is in and how much players are active. Clicking on the names will teleport you there.

The Linden XPloder Money Bag
You will notice many of the other players don’t seem
too busy. Often they just are doing other things on their
computer only to come back when the Xploder finishes
to go to the next one. But there is always some that
is willing to talk. Also handy when you have a question
or so and look for a group of people with not much
better to do than to help you out. They will.

Zyngo – Freeplay

Zyngo (and all similar games) is a game that could best be seen as a gambling game although strictly formally spoken it is not. It is a skill game. You can put in some money and if you do well you win more than you put in.

Freeplay is where you don’t put in money but still can win. It is offered a lot and for 3 reasons:

  • They want people on their location, because of the traffic, just as with the Xploder and with camping.
  • They don’t want their place to look all empty. Most game locations only have a few visitors. It looks better (for the real players) if there are some more.
  • You learn the game. Perhaps later you want to try the real thing.

You can find a whole lot more about these games at my Zyngo page .
Here is one of the better places offering freeplay.

There are much more places offering freeplay but this one is a good one to start. You can use Second Life’s search to find more locations. Watch for a few things:

  • The score you have to beat, if it is too high you’ll be busy a long time for a little cash.
  • The amount of cash you get when you beat the score. And you want cash, not points, chances to come back to win something tomorrow or a place on a win board..ignore those who give something else than cash. You’ll end up with a lot of effort for nothing.
  • If there are contest boards. Contest boards are fun. They increase your chance. When you score really high your name gets on the contest board and on the end of the contest — if it is still there, not beaten by someone else — you get an extra price.

Playing with a bit more risk..

Freeplay is good. You don’t have to pay nothing..and still can win. No risk involved.

You could take it a step further. Who watches very carefully and keeps on using their brain can make a lot more on these game sims. I also sometimes do it, when I need money to buy a dress or so…Still almost risk free but taking a lot more cash.

Take your time first and look around, understand what is going on, and only then go on this path. Otherwise you will just loose.

  • 1 L$ machines. These are not free play anymore, they cost 1 L$ per game. Often you see on the machine displayed that 100% goes to the pot. The machine runs for a certain period and who has the highest score at the end of the period gets the pot. Then a new round starts and the owner of the machine already puts some cash in the pot. Find such a machine at a location that is not too crowded and has multiple of these machines, play as long as needed to put a very high score on the board..The next player will be wise enough to try on another machine (or put in a lot of L$ that all goes to the pot, most likely for you) and you will get the pot.
  • Contest boards. The less popular game sims are often rather new ones, hoping to become a popular one..they accept a little loss in the first time by putting up contest boards that give out rather high amounts they try to draw players. So, if they are willing to loose a bit in the beginning..they might as well loose that to you. Find the machine in which you have to put the least possible amount and start playing. You’ll win some and you’ll loose some, often end up with a loss but – when choosen the location carefully and playing a bit with your brain – that loss will be less than the amount you will get from that contest board. Try to get such a high score on the board that the next player decides to better try out his luck elsewhere.

You’ll end up constantly playing on other places, watching the boards and machines carefully. Sometimes it is better to move on to the next place..till you found a board or a timed machine (it doesn’t have to be a L$1 timed machine, you could do the same with higher amounts but be careful!) on which you will win and start playing.

Take your time to fully understand what you are doing. Otherwise you might loose, and you would be better off at the freeplay.
